"Prepping Paws: 10 Purrfect Ways to Prepare Your Pets for Professional Pet Care!"

Kennels, Cattery or Home?

Organising care for your furry, feathered or scaly family members while you are away, can be a stressful time for all involved. Do you put your beloved cat or dog in a cattery or kennels, knowing that they suffer anxiety and become stressed in a strange environment?

These types of care are not for all pets, being in their own home, with their home comforts, normal routine, with peace and quiet suites them best. So having a professional who is caring, reliable and a trustworthy pet sitter is the ideal solution. Finding the perfect person that will care for your pet/s as if they were their own.

1: Be Organised:

Searching for pet care, needs to be organised ideally before you book your holiday or mini break away. This saves problems and stress for you all, sometimes finding the appropriate care for your VIP's needs can be tricky if left to the last minute. A lot of good pet care services get booked up fairly early, in the preparation of the following months or year ahead. Leaving this important job to the last minute, can cause you to make rash decisions that are not in the best interest of your treasured family member/s. A professional pet sitter, will have all the correct qualifications, insurance, security checks, a contract T&S, first aid and any other qualifications and reviews.

If possible, book a visit while you go out for a few hours, letting the pet sitter get to know your pet/s before the main pet visits start. This is helpful, as the pet/s and pet sitter are more familiar with each other, making the visits run smoother.

2: Getting Prepared:

1:To prepare for your pets visits, make sure to give details of vets, phone numbers, any illnesses, medication that needs giving, so your pet sitter is well informed.

The more information you can give about your pet/s the better it will be for the care of your VIP, their likes, dislikes, favourite toy, do they enjoy fuss and being groomed. Do they love a game of fetch in the garden, are they upset by loud noises, where poo bags are.

Make sure the pet sitter knows about the feeding routines and requirements, have the food for your pet/s organised and at hand.

If your cat uses a litter tray, have the cat litter available for the duration of the visits.

Let the pet sitter know where you keep cleaning products if needed for accidents.

3: Access: Walk through your home and close any doors, cupboards to areas that are out of bounds to your pet/s.

4: Chewing Hazards: Remove or put away anything that can be chewed and that can cause serious injury, cables, poisonous liquids, slug pellets etc, shoes, toys that need to be supervised only toys, tv remotes.

5: Walking Accessories: Make sure leads, collars, harnesses and poo bags are where the pet sitter can see and grab them if walks are needed.

6: Food Prep: Make sure your pets food is fully stocked before you leave for your holiday. consider pre-portioning meals for ease for the pet sitter.

7: Items to leave your Pet Sitter:

House Keys, Codes to Key Box, Alarm Codes.

The pet sitter will need the keys to your property for the length of your pets care and visits.

8: Instructions for your dog, cat, or other pet/s

including walking times, feeding times and measurements, normal routines as this helps lower any anxiety or stress they will feel when you are away.

9: Special Medical Care Instructions:

if your pet has any medical needs like daily medication, supplements or other.

Making sure you give details of exact amounts and times needed to be administered. Any tips to help the pet sitter in case of a difficult patient.
